These wonderful children love sports but need equipment and fields to play in. Our goal is to provide a recreation center and well built playing fields along with games to promote their well-being and bring them joy.
We have obtained approval to install a center. We will provide this service to the children for free and will encourage their development in team sports.
We at Children's Rising Sun want to make this possible. We need the support of others who cherish children's happiness and growth.
Renee Babcock-Moussa and Mamady Cisse are the founders of this project. Both have their personal reasons for this outreach.
Renee is a former Peace Corps Volunteer, where she served in Cameroon, Africa and taught English as a second language to middle school and high school students. She has firsthand experience in witnessing the needs of the children in the area of education and team sports. Many families don't have the ability to buy school supplied let alone toys and games for their children. African children have a great love of sports and she feels that they would benefit greatly from these activities. Her heart is still in Africa.
Mamady was born in Guinea and went to school in KanKan, Guinea. He used to play soccer in the street barefoot and without any sports gear. He loved playing team games with the neighborhood kids and knows that the children today love playing as well. His hope is that more children in Africa will be given the chance to play and experience the game using proper fields and equipment. Cisse came to the US in the 1990's and has always dreamed of giving back by helping the children of Africa.
Renee and Mamady met each other in Ann Arbor, Michigan and shared this common dream. They have worked together to make this dream before a reality not only for themselves but for the children of Africa as well. They have put much effort towards this project and are now hoping that others with the same interest and heart will participate in this project so that it can come to fruition.
